I would like to know, does the same technic apply on the interior of the 1/72nd scale armor as it does to the exterior? The reason why I ask is that I have seen the works of the modeler named Mirko Bayerl who does mainly 1/35th scale armor with impressive results both on the inside as well as the outside.

Interiors are not subjected to the same wear as the exterior. Even the spots where the crew enters and exits don't chip too much. They may get rubbed by the body as you slide in and out, but that tends to produce a more glossy finish than true chipping.
The place where there may be some chipping would be where the casing are ejected from the main gun or around the hatch edges.
