As a fan of modern armor, how about painting "OH GREAT! ANOTHER FRIGGIN' SHERMAN MODEL"

Haha, just kidding. I always liked "Can Opener" as a tank name.

Make sure you post some pics of your tank.

Most of the tanks that got names had the name start with the company letter ...ie Block Buster was from B company . And yes some other countries did this too..

I like to name my Shermans after females who are important in my life. I simulate a crew member writing his gal's name on the side. If you are married or have a girlfriend, naming it after her may score you some points!!! If you have a wife and daughter there is no rule saying you can't have them both. I usually put the name(s) on the turret near the driver or loader's hatch. The great thing is that it still does not prevent you from naming the tank "Can Opener" or something for the C Company unofficial name.

Here is a sample

A company 1-69 Armor in Vietnam, all their tanks names started with the letter A ie; Apostle, Ape, A Go-Go, and Assassin.

I would stick with tradition, but it's you're model so HAVE FUN!!!

When I was in the Dutch Royal Horse Artillery, all their guns were named after places where they did battle ( most from the Napoleontic wars ), so we had names like: Stralsund, Friedland and Bergen.

Still, there was one oddity in this system: Number 225, from the 1st battery, bravo platoon is called Barbara, after the patron saint of the gunners.

I am pretty sure there are some tanks around somewhere that are called 'George' after the cavalry patron saint.
