Hi

I was wondering why so many kits for a Canadian tank say they should be olive drab when any of the ones I see at museums or in parks are dark green. Were our tanks OD or dark green? Shermans here in Kingston are dark green. Is this an after war paint job mistake?

I'd venture a guess and say the vast majority of display tanks are painted with colors more readily available through the current military supply system (or civilian market) than in authentic colors.

Of course, this would be different for vehicles in the hands of collectors or meticulously restored museum pieces.

Most Shermans made during WW2 probably came out of the factory in the standard olive drab green (which did vary during the entire duration of the war). I know some nations repainted them upon arrival, but I bet that was probably not a huge priority compared to getting proper unit markings on them.

As far as I'm aware, CAnadian vehicles followed the same painting rules as British-
US built vehicles OD, British built and modified US built vehicles (eg Firefly, Achilles) would be whatever the WD paint scheme ws at the time. SCC15 was the base colour for afvs from May 1944.

Hope this helps
