I am awaiting the arrival of Grandt Line 128 bolts to complete the wood side of the Marine Sherman. One day, I am going to come across a whole wall of those critters, but for now they are on backorder. Regardless, I wanted to get some advice about the markings for this particular tank. The photos I have show white painted marking with large USMC on the sides. The best way I can see to replicate this is by hand painting it. Tricky with the eyes and shaky hands of an old man. So, the questions are: advice on hand painting markings and has anyone used frisket paper (?) to mask? If so, where do you get the paper?

Get mine at hobby Lobby. about $8.00 for 6 sheets. hightack one is the only one they have.
Grandt line is hard to find I know . I have only used it make stars which I copy from decal sheet. You could also try Archer decals dry transfers he might have a set for USMC here is site

Just a suggestion, and I don't know if it'll work, but you can try "drawing" or painting the white markings onto clear decal film. By drawing the makings, I mean get that type writer correction film (do they still make the stuff?). Each piece was the size of a razor blade and when you typed over it, it placed a film of white over the typo. Use these to draw the USMC onto the decal film, it would work just like a dry transfer. Then cut out the decal and apply like normal (after sealing the decal with a clear coat).

You can also buy pens that mark in white. Try looking for "gel-pens" at any local Walmart or stationery store (Hallmarks, etc.) and you'll find 'em. My teenage kids turned me on to these. They also make silver and gold pens that are handy.
