Guys,
I have been trying to keep up with the other thread on Filters. I have also done some search on the site for past articles on filters. My questions are, If you do your base coat with Acrylic paint on the model, do the oil paint filters work as well or should you use Acrylic paint for your filter colot. Does Arcylic paint work that well as a filter. I just want some input on it.

Brent, If your basecoat is acrylic then use oil or enamel for your filters. Also if you haven't already, spray a clearcoat, satin or gloss, over the basecoat before applying filter. Check out the link in the other thread to Mig Jimenez's article it explains it well.

edit: I forgot, personally I don't like using acrylics for filters. I just don't like the way they look when dry compared to oils or enamels, they aren't as transparent. If I use enamels for my basecoat (which isn't often these days) I clearcoat with acrylic.

Frank, check out the article at the address below by Mig Jimenez. Different people have different definitions for a filter. This was where I first heard the term referred to in modeling, so this is what I think of when referring to a filter.
Cheers,
Mike
