I was just wondering if this truck was used in Vietnam. If so, would I have to backdate the AFV Club kit to get an hypothetical previous version, if need be (M49A1C ?). Some "in situ" picture(s) and other infos would be welcome as well. This tanker truck could keep one of my 1/35 Hueys company ..

TIA

We had the M-49 A1 in Nam. I drove one. The only thing that shows that I would suggest changing is the tail lights and front marker/turn signal lights. We did not have the metal grill on the front of the radiator either. I am basing this up to the 1968 time frame. We may have had the newer version up to 1973 draw down. I will get some of my photos on the gallery that shows these trucks.

All of the above that the good Animal said is true. The only other modification would be to replace the exhaust stack and reroute the exhaust back along the right frame, coming out between the right rear tires as in any other M35A1. You would also need to fill the hole on the right front fender as well.

Here are the only two photos that I have of the M-49A1. The first one is of our truck standing by at a cross road to top off any truck that needed it. The second photo is of our truck that got hit by an RPG on the return trip.

Thanks for taking time to find them Dave ! I'd rather build the one on the top picture
