Hi gang,

I've laid my hands on the Verlinden T1E3 Mineroller conversion for the Sherman. Now I would like to do my first BIG kit-bash project; so is it "allowed" to use the upperhull of the DML M4A1, together with the T23 turret from Academy, and the pressed disc wheels?

Please help me with some tips, 'cos the only pic I could find, was in the Osprey Sherman book!!

Thnx in advance, John.

John-

Heres what i got from the Concord Pub. book, Sherman at War European Theater, book # 7036.

In Autumn of 44, two tank battallions, the 738th and 739th were converted to specialozed tank battalions for using minefield clearing equipment. These had a company with 18 TIE1 Mine rollers, two companys with 12 TIE3 Mine roller tanks and six dozer tanks. The 739th was deployed w/ the 9th US Army on 24 Nov, 1944.

The photos on this page show 2 different TIE3 Mine roller equipted tanks. They both have 75mm gun turrets, One of them looks to be a M4A1 hull.

If you want the pics pm me and ill send them to you via e-mail.

HTH

I have never seen a Roller on a 76mm. I don't think they would have wasted it on a roller.

I have a few pics of the M4A1 being used. However I have nothing that shows a T23 turret, all are 75mm guns.
The road wheels are of the solid spoke pressed type. Again, I have nothing that shows the smooth pressed type.

John,

The 2 pics I have of M4A1's are like what Ken described, except the ones i have are M4A1's with open spoked wheels. They are of a M4A1 of the 739th Tank Bn (Special) as described in my previous post.
They show it undergoing tests concerning the weight of these tanks over the treadway bridges.

PM me if you want these pics.

Don't forget that many of the tanks used foe that ype of service were usually refurbs of older tanks. Therefore older Shermans would be more appropriate

No T23 turret on this baby. Check out this website for some good reference material that may help you with your build. I understand the Verlinden kit is a little shaky on some of the details.
