What I do is to drill out the plastic lens from the kit and fill them with White glue. It will take at least two layers of glue to get the right shape. I first drill the out. You don't have to go very deep. I paint the hole I made with silver or chrome paint. After paint is dry I fill the hole with the white glue. After the glue dries I add more layers till I have the convex shape that I like. That's all there is to it. Works every time for me.

I would have to agree with animal on his technique. I've used the same basic technique in doing gauges, some lights (lenses) and instrument panels on automotive models. It works pretty good.

Same idea here. Afriend of mine used to glue a small piece of tin foil under the clear lenses before attatching them to the light case. This looked pretty good.
