I read on another post here (can't find it now for the life of me) that you're not suppose to use lacquer over acrylics as the lacquer thinner in the paint will destroy the acrylic paint. I've only completed three models to date, but two of the three were done using acrylic paints with a coat of Dull Cote to finish it off. I haven't seen any problems using this technique. Was I just lucky, or was the other poster mistaken?

You should have no problem airbrushing dullcote over acrylics. Brushing could become a real problem, however, including dullcote over enamels. Even if the thinner bites a bit, it will dry before doing any damage. If in doubt, use a couple light applications, but I've airbrushed heavy coats on my figures with no issues.

Carl,
I paint almost exclusivly with MM Acryl acrylics and one of my last step is a healthy coat of MM Dullcote out of a rattle can. I have never had a problem.
Note: You may run into problems if you do a laquer base wash over laquer base paint. Maybe that is what the original thread was talking about.

I've had no troubles with rattle can dullcoat (old white can or new silver one with colored (red or green?) stripe) over Poly Scale (old and new), Model Master Acryl, and Tamiya acrylics.
But I HAVE had the new model master dullcoat clone tear up Gunze Sanyo acrylic paintjobs , even when they were weeks cured.
My rattle can technique is not the greatest, but I do try to use very light coats. FWIW.
So yes and no.
I'd be careful.
I've resorted to using the Model Master Clear gloss and clear flat through the airbrush and have had no troubles with any paints since.
My US$0.02
