As Captain Mainwaring would say.
There was I last night merrily about to paint my M16 with it's black cammo. BUT when I check my references I realise that the white stars on the side of the halftrack (which I'd spent 'ages' getting 'right' the night before) don't exist on the one I'm trying to model.
IRONY- (attention Alanis Morrisette)- I usually forget to apply decals until after at least one lot of weathering
Nevertheless, undeterred by historical accuracy or good taste, I decide to continue. I'm sure I can work around this- not as bad as gluing the cargo body of my M6 the wrong way round, is it?. We shall see.
Meanwhile, here for your amusement, shoddiness:
Right, I'm off to go and kick myself up the arse.

Hmmm- I thought I would just cop out and overpaint them.
Thanks for the tip though.

what i do is cut out all the decals i plan too use and put the others away from the model that way you know you have the one's you need
That's what I did- only I did it before I checked with the photo!!!
