Here is a diorama I just completed on the Zoot Suit Riots in Los Angeles in 1943 when bands of Sailors ganged into taxicabs and went down to the bario in East LA to beat up Pachucos wearing flamboyant Zoot Suits. It is all scratchbuilt in 54mm. The cab was heavily converted from a diecast of a 1941 Plymouth four door.
I hope y'all like it.
[EDIT by EAGLE] :
This is an awesome diorama that deserves its own spot. Therefore I removed the pictures from the forum and inserted them in an On display Article. You can find the article over here :

WOW! Poetry in motion, make that mid-motion. The vibrant and contrasting colors, the excellent detailing, the action, the about to be spilt trash can......
The cab is a beaut too but then again so is everything else.

Don't know what to say. This ain't modelling, this is pure art...
Could you tell me something more about those zoot suites riots?? Never heard of, sounds interesting. What are zoot suits (very colourfull I suppose)? who wears them (latinos I suppose)? Why were the marines against zoot suits? and so on

Stunning Bob. Great scene, sculpting and painting. But the animation for a static model is amazing. Its always a pleasure to see your dios and this is the best so far. A welcome change to the usual battle dios and an interesting topic that is not known of, to most ... well to me anyway. I enjoyed both you pictures here, and the in-progress build ups on planet armor. Thanks for sharing.

Bob, that really is a masterpiece.
Like Florres, I am not familiar with the Zoot Suit riots. Can anyone tell us a bit more about the origins of these riots?
What are Pachucos?

The building was quite simple. I built the walls with cork and framed with basswood. The surface was coated with Liquitex Stucco texturing medium and then painted. The window shutters were made with plastic card and so was the roof.

Well, for my next project I will be talking a slight diversion from dios and doing a 1/9th scale sculpture of the following picture:
I am a big fan of Churchill and I think this picture really says a lot about him. Plus I get to do a Tommy Gun albeit the Brit version called the "Savage."
After that I will finish the third in my trilogy of WWI called "Brave Little Belgian," where a Beligan Minerva armored car is chasing down three German Uhlans from the very first month of the war.

Awesome Job!
My history class just finished this chapter. My students were surprised at the attitude of both sides of this weird riot.
Excellent work, reminiscence of Ray Anderson's work. Sculpting is great, paint awesome and the composition superb

Simply amazing. Original, great painting, great poses, it flows well. Great job. This is the type of work that inspires others to try something different, and to improve on their skills.

What I like about Bob's work is that he elevates this to an art.
Will we see this at any shows this year?

It will be at SCAHMS in California in two weeks, perhaps Valley Forge in May, then Tulsa in June, then World Expo in Boston in July, then Chicago in October and finally it gets delivered to the guy who commissioned it at the Long Island Show in November.
