Many times I have mentioned my techniques for making washes, and their varied results. I have finally gotten around to putting together this presentation.
Guache in vinegar, ammonia and water
Left, Grumbacher's water mixable oil paint, mixed in carriers (L to R) vinegar, ammonia, Windex and water.

Note the various dispersion of pigments in the different carriers. Some are smooth, some random, note that some pull the pigments away from the edge of the wash puddle as they dry.
Note that neither vinegar nor ammonia has hurt the paint--Polly Scale steel. To see how these work on models, see my gallery pix, specifically my 1/48 German armored car.
