Hi,
I have a German Tank Ferdinand from Italeri. The plastic color is black.
Should I put a primer first ? Or keep it black and paint the base color ? If I keep it black would it have the same effect has pre-shading ?
What primer should I use for that ( if a put a primer) ?
I use mostly tamiya acryls.
Thanks

It's always a goof idea to prime, if for no other reason you'll see flaws, seam lines, etc. that you'd miss otherwise.
Leaving it black would not be the same as preshading since everything would be the same color.
You could do a historically accurate prime and use a rusty red color, but the typical primer is a light color, like a flat gull gray.

I usually prime everything with light gray automotive primer out of the big rattle can. I spray on a couple of light coats. Like Al mentioned, it will help you spot the flaws. It also gives the next coat of paint something better to adhere to. Works okay for me. I figure if it is good enough for someone's classic Thunderbird it is good enough for my plastic model...
