A while back i did a 1/48 scale Kettenkraftrad for the move it campaign. I started work on a diorama to give it a permenant home. This is a late fall scene, where a make shift supply camp has been set up. This is still a work in progress as another vehicle will be added. Any and all comments and or suggestions are welcome.
Mary

Nice dioarama you got there.are you planning on adding some figures?i think Tamiya are bringing some1/48 scale figures out to go with there Tiger.and you could also add the Tiger in your dio being resupplyed.good work.

Hi,
Very nice idea there. I esp. like all those 'trees' added to it. Something really different. Don't think I've ever seen a dio. with this type of 'forest' setting to it. Looking forward to seeing how it progresses.

Good luck and take care, Sgirty

Ok Sister. I just learned that Mr.Gardner's diorama skills are infectious, glad you had no vaccination on that
very good scene.a few days more and the Kettenkrad will be full of cardboxes.

Great composition Mary Nicely layed out. I too like the quantity of trees, very ambitious. Well done with the leaves on the ground giving a fall time feel.
Couple of things. The height of the trees is a bit off putting to me. The height and thickness combination isn't quiet right. With that said, I will also say I don' t know if I would trim the trees. In 1/48 scale if you start chopping back the trees, they'll be to thick on top (branch wise).
The limb on top of the shed needs to have weight added to it. A branch that long would be heavy. I think if you take some of the space out from under it it would look more its weight. Drop of glue to fix.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions guys. As i said earlier this is a work in progress and thats why i like posting the pictures. As i am new to this, I will learn by trial and error and viewer comments. There will also be another vehicle added that will sit between the trees kinda to the left and behind the ketten. I hope with the addition of the vehicle, that it will balance more the height of the trees. Will post more pics as i make updates.
Was just wondering ..if i were to trim the trees a bit from the bottom..would that work instead of trimming the trees from the top side..
Thanks again..

I wouldn't trim the trees on this one - I'd go with the diorama as is on this one.
It's the height and trunk size combo that is throwing my eyes off. So even if you do trim from the bottom you still have the height.
For a 1/48 scale diorama the affect isn't so bad that I'd change anything. It's more just a discussion point, something to consider the next time that's all.
This is only your second diiorama and I personally am still learning every time I do a project. So, don't worry about and don't feel like it deminishes the overall quality of the project. Once the 2nd vehicle is there and the base is done and you're happy - then it won't even be an issue.

Thanks for the comments everyone. The issure of the trees. Well..i have decided to leave the trees as is. These are poplar trees..In real life ..these types of trees when mature will grow to be as tall as 60 to 75 feet tall. The tallest tree on the diorama stands only about 6 inches tall. Given that..when scaled out, the trees would be about 25 feet tall. I think that the angle of the pictures could possible make the trees look more out of scale than what is actually there.

Hi Mary i really like the progress on this dio so far, i like the trees remeber not all trees will grow to 60 or 75 feet, just an idea maybe a stump or 2 would work, i think your dio will look even better when you get the other vechicle in it.

From hillbillies to figures to dios, Mary you're one versatile modeller if not talented one. I like the mood & setting. Trees look great as you've packed them well. A tree when growing in a high density situation tend to be etiolated (elongated) and as such have relatively thinner trunks but taller ones so I think the trunk thickness doesn't look too far off.

My only super small nitpick is there should be more litter on the ground given the number of trees. Leaves are like rubble, the more the better.

Nice touch by having dead leaves on the roof.

Well Mary besides fast, u re also too good !!!! when i talked for a new talent , i was right !!!!! Very nice scene on coloring and on setup, i like the fact that the trees are tall and theyrerealistic. they make u look whats under them . i think after u fill in more stuff that u still expect , the scene will be even nicer. Good to see that Kev's virus is now in ur blood!!!!!! Keep dioraming lady !!!!

Hi Mary, This is my 1,000th post and I wanted to give it to you I think your diorama is making wonderful progress. I agree with points made by a few others it needs more forest litter and also more leaves. Slodder mentioned "weighting down" the branch on the lean too and I feel this will add some realism. I am looking forward to seeing the kublewagen and what ever figures added that you come up with. All in all its a great job so far. Cheers Kevin

I just want to say thanks guys for all of your comments and suggestions. I am going to be adding a Kubelwagen to the scene, more forest litter, and a few other minor details to hopefully bring the overall picture into focus a bit better. Will post more pics as i make adjustments.
Thanks again,
Mary (++)

That is a beauty Tankysgal. I like the groundwork and the way the camouflaged vehicle blends into the forest.

This is also the first time I have seen a dio such as this. Most forest dios cover the main subject. This one actually enhances it.

There are a lot of open spaces so I guess you will be putting some more figures, accessories and vehicles.

I love it.

Angela
