I ended up with a late Tamiya Tiger in a swap and while Tigers aren't usually my thing, I do want to do a decent job of it. And I am plannning on doing it before the DML Lates hit.. that one I plan to go to town on.

So that means Zimmerit, probably a barrel, and prpbably etch.

Which manufacturer makes the 'best' aftermarket zimmerit for this kit?
Does the Cavalier #101 fit Tamiya's late Tiger?
Is there an Atak set?

I'm passing on etched zimm for now. I've tried the Eduard etch stuff and was only slightly impressed, and I am NOT going to use Verlinden stuff.

Best zimm option?? and no, I am not rolling milliput or hot knifing up this kit...

The Aber screens are a must, but I don't quite feel like doing COMPLETLEY nutso and using an Aber etch set. So I am leaning toward the Eduard set and Eduard fenders.

Then there is the barrel, Eduard is cheaper then Aber. I'm ruling our Rubio.. old school not as nice as either Aber or Eduard. CMK/Hotbarrels stuff is ok.

The kit I got comes with the Tiger Designs late asymetrical turret, so that's a given..

No engine, no interior on this one.

Kit has Tamiya individual links already, so no Fruils or Modelkatsten... unless someone has a set of Anvil's they'd like to part with?

As I type this I am realizing that ALL of what I am writing about will be in the new DML Late kit, AND the ability to do a befels.. but like I said, this one will be a warm up for that one.

So Tiger builders, what recommendations do you have for zimmerit sets?
For Etch sets?
For Barrels?

Atak does make a set for the Tamiya kit... I have not used that specific set, but, I have used other Atak zimmerit and it is very, very nice.

I have used the Cavalier set for the Tamiya Tiger I and it fits very well. You even get a complete zimmerit covered mantlet.

CMK Makes one also

The Eduard sets are pretty good... not as finely detailed as the aber, but then you won't go insane trying to make those Aber tool brackets either.

You might also consider the Lion Roar sets... I have one for the Tiger I and it seems like a nice set. They also make a set of Tiger I fenders. And it is also the cheapest of the sets on the market.

For Barrels?

The newest Aber barrels are simply amazing... the engineering must be seen to be believed... be sure to get the Late model with the smaller muzzle brake if you are doing one of the last batches of Tiger I's.
Great Models has one in stock

MLD,
I'm doing much the same. I found a really cheap tamiya Late Tiger that I'm using as a practice Late Tiger before the DML Late Tiger release.

As for the zimmerit, I'm going to try some spackling and use fine tooth brass rollers, like the new AFV Club tool. Once again , I need the practice!

As for the barrel, on most of my Tigers I use the Eduard barrel. Looks good and I usually get them for $10-11 USD. And I agree with Tim, the Aber barrel is truly outstanding. I have one and paid $18-19 USD , IIRC. It is a work of art. PE, brass and aluminum parts..extremely fine details...beautiful. I almost don't want to paint it or put it on a kit.

Have fun !

Guys, thanks for the inside info.

I've gone with the Cavalier Zimmerit.
I've used their stuff on other kits and with some minor fit issues I find it is pretty good overall. Modelpoint US was out of the Atak for the Tiger.

Also going with the Eduard etch set and the Eduard barrel. Having online instructions is a real help.

The review for the Aber barrel over on PMMS makes it sound pretty amazing.

But I'm just going to 'toss' this one together.. yeah right like a kit w 3x aftermarket sets and individual track links can be tossed together...

Thanks
Mike
