Hello,

I have panzergrenadier figurines which I'm about to paint but I'm not sure about the uniform color.

On the box they suggest tamiya xf-56 which is metalic grey. I'm not quite sure german uniforms looked that way.

Can somebody help me with this ?

I wanted to make them appear in a eastern front setting. But not in winter so no winter clothes.

Should the uniform be field grey or field green ?
Field grey seems a little too dark... or is it me ?

I'm trying to find some reference material, but I haven't found what I'm looking for so far.

I really want to have a eastern front setting.

I'm using tamiya acryls.

Here you go !

They are from tamiya. The period I'm not quite sure. Maybe they mention it on the box, I'll check tonight when I'm home.

Here's the link for the figurines:

Well, if its a tunic than its definatly going to be feild grey. No exceptions. Model Masters makes this type of paint, same with Tamiya. Good luck bud!

The gray on the tunic in the product picture is definitely lighter than tamiya's field grey.

Should I lighten field grey ? How are they supposed to look like ? Like the picture or darker ?

Thanks !

This is a good site for colour references.
They make high quality reproduction uniforms for re-enactors.

http://www.1944militaria.com/wool_tunics__trousers.htm

Bear in mind that German uniform production was far from 'uniform' with many small contractors supplying the Wehrmacht.
The 'field grey' colour could vary from an Olive Green colour through to a Khaki Drab, via every shade of grey-green in between, especially towards the end of the war.
As the Tamiya figures you have are early war, it's best to give them some standardisation though - I'd suggest field grey tunics and trousers, unless you're doing them from the 1939-40 period, in which case mouse-grey trousers would be acceptable.

Hope that helps.

Gramdash, you dont have to be spot on with the tamiya box. Tamiya's box artists arent even very good. Use any grey you want, it works out fine. Good luck.

Yeah I know I don't have to be on spot with the box.
I was 90% sure the uniform were field grey but on the box the grey was lighter than the field grey I had from tamiya.

So I tought I was wrong, I tought I did not have the right color and I wanted to have the accurate color for the time / setting.. not really matching the box :-)
