Hi All-I'm sure this topic has come up in the past, but I'm going to ask-I use an Aztec AB, with a watertrap/air regulator set up. Every time I try to use Model Master or Polly scale acryls, the paint dries in the tip. I have tried thinning with water, alcohol, and the recomended thinners for each paint. Nothing seems to prevent this. Any suggestions?? BTW-I don't have any problems with Tamiya acryls, and I don't have access to other brands of paint.

Wow Brain, that is odd. I use an old Testors AB, with the same nozzles as the newer Aztec airbrushes, and shoot MM Acryl straight from the bottle with no problems. I actually just shake the botttle, screw it on the AB and go to work. Granted, I am not doing any really fine lines but I have never had the paint dry on the tip.
I have my brush hooked straight up to the regulator on the compressor, no moisture trap.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

To here you say you paint straight from the bottle makes me sick!!! I can't tell you how many different thinning combinations I have tried-all to end in the same result. I work part time at a Hobby Shop and I here a lot of people complain about the same thing so at least I know it's not just me having these problems. Maybe I will try your method.

I use a paasche VL double action airbrush spraying MM Acryl unthinned, I dont have the problem of drying, but some pigments (wood, gunmetal, figure pigments) are very thick and even when thinned with alcohol still clogs my airbush, the old bubbles coming up from the open cup, clogged. I dont have this problem with Tamiya paints...I spray at 20 psi

It's just the nature of the beast. Acrylics dry a lot faster than enamels and they tend to clog. Since I tend to do more figures and use acrylics occasionally to prime or when I'm doing a large surface like a cloak, I'm not running the AB all that long.
The only thing I could suggest is thin way down and do multiple light coats.

Brian i have had the same problem as you. Createx makes an airbrush additive called a retarder it does what it says retards the drying time when i mix my colors i add a few drops in that helps should work with most acrylic paints i have used it with several, also use some airbrush lube on the the moving parts, that should help.
