Dear all friends hi
One more update on this dio, as another element of it is finished and attached. This big thingie neede some fuel to move after it was abandoned there, so a fuel track is coming to a rescue !!!
Check it out . As asked by many guys i try to shoot some close ups and details that might prove useful. I hope by next week the third vehicle of the dio will be finished and placed, and then i ll start the painting of all 19 figures of the dio, and i hope by end of April that IPMS Nationals are here, i ll have it ready .
Any comments, suggestions, nitpicks, welcome gentlemen and ladies
Thanks for ur time
Costas

Aside from the lenses that are put on wrong.. They should be turned a quarter. The Stripes should run vertical. I can only say it is a brilliant piece of work. It is a nice vehicle too. I like the contrast of the Grimey green with the weathered wood of the cab. I really love the parts that show the bare metal of the vehicle. Exactly on the right locations where you expect that kind of stuff and also the rust on it is a nice touch.
Does the stencilling come with the kit? Or did you handpaint that... Either way it looks very good.
Can`t wait till you show us more of this project.

Thanks for comments guys. Good eye Robert, the lense turned out of correct postitioning , due to my handling the truck before it was all set dry , but i will fix it , i have only seen this when i shot the pics !!!
The stencils, are trucks decals from the company but where way to thick and having huge film. I trimmed them carefully with a surgical scissor all the way round them. i used 2 coats of futere before setting them , then i used Gunze;s Mr Setter and Mr Softer, and sealed them with 2 more future coats . Off course i weathered them be deleting some parts and letters

Great work. Your progress on this diorama is fun to watch. Every update shows another well executed part of the puzzle. Keep us updated, and I want to see that jeep next Tuesday
Your weathering is top-notch and really conveys the harsh elements of war.
Thanks for update #5!

In regard to the lenses
Have any of you folk seen how those lenses are held into the headlight rim in real life?
I suggest not as they are held by 3 or 4 specially shaped springs!
Now with a truck with the amount of use (abuse) that the fuel tanker has seen one or both of the lenses could have/ should have vibrated around so they would not be verticle!
I post this not to upset anybody but to point out that the lenses do not have to be verticle to be correct in this instance.
Cheers
Cliff

MG - nice nice nice weathering and finishing. Very well done. I can envision these in black and white photos and have them look like the photos I've seen from history books.
An add on to my previous post.... The ruts that the tank would have left in the ground would be considerably deep. This is a very heavy tanks and would rip up the ground where it drove

i love your T-35...... I am currently building one now and am getting really frustrated with the fit issues.... Tell me, did you have problems with the turrets coming apart when you placed them on the rings? if so, how did you get past that? your painting and weathering is awesome, i just hope mine comes out half as good as yours.....

Great job Costas, You really get a sense of the size of a T35 when parked beside the fuel truck. Your weathering (as mentioned) is fanstastic and I envision the fuel truck bouncing through all kinds hazards getting to the tanks. Your details on the vehicles are great to explore and really add realism. I hate to nitpik, but a couple of things with the fuel truck:
The running boards on these later Zis5s are wood.
also the frame should be black, again on Zis5s (although I've read conflicting info on this))
You may want to check on these.
What model is the fuel truck, Italeri?( looks nicely deatiled)
Looking forward to seeing the final dio
Bruce

Da Ruski Sovjetski!
Absolutely great truck! I love the difference in green between the faded green wooden cab en the metal fueltank. Only 1 nitpick: the spare tire seems a bit glossy (but this can also be from the flashlight?)
Looking forward to the dio!

Awesome truck Costas! It's been mentioned a million times, but your weathering is very nice. I have to say though that the exhaust is incorrect. It should be on the right side of the truck, unlike the kit has it - should be an easy modification if you decide to do it. Also, like Stug stated, frame and suspension, and undersides of fenders should be painted black - gloss black even, this is a rule for all Soviet trucks. Can't wait to see your GAZ!!

I'm coming to this one a bit late, & I have to say I'm blown away by this diorama! The groundwork & trees are superb, the vehicles excellent! How big is this (in area - I assume it's 1/35th)? The T35 must be a Russian kit, were there any problems in the construction? As for the lenses on the headlights that everyone is complaining about, the more I look at them the better they look. I had an old Triumph that the headlight lens always vibrated round like that - used to annoy me no end, so I think that actually helps the well worn look of the bowser!
