Italeri 1/35 scale Kit # 372 Paladin S.P. Howitzer

What updates or conversions will I need to do to get this to a ODS or maybe even a OIF gun. And is there any PE interior stuff for this I just got this from my LHS for a good price on his clearence shelfs.

I seen a show on the military channel and thought it would be a nice dio with a tamiya Modern stuff; Humvee, M1A1 Abrams etc.

Any HELP will be greatlly appreciated.

Happy Modeling

Tom,
Italeri Paladin out of the box will build into a current /OIF howitzer. Paladin was not used in ODS, not fielded till mid-late 1990s. The only add ons you may want are the AFV Club (ex-Skybow) M109 indi track link set. Another add on is the spare tracks on the front hull, included in the AFV Club set. You can see whree they are in the M109A6 walk around a couple posts down. Also not mentioned in the Italeri instructions, the left side rear antenna should only be about 1 inch long, it is an EPLRS (Enhanced Position Locating Radio System) antenna. The other two should be full length, about 2 1/4 inches. They are standard radio antennas. Don't know of any AM interior sets for the Paladin. There are a couple sets for an A2 interior, but they are vastly diferent. I have an M109 engine set I could trade with you for. Got two in a trade and only plan on using one. Let me know if interested.

The Eduard p.e. for the exterior is nice for the bin mesh, straps for POL cans and many more little bits. Skybow/AFV Club tracks are also good (although not exactly right for Paladin apparently, but close enough).
One thing you should do is remove the curved 'hump' piece behind the engine grilles, this was for the flotation gear and Italeri still has it on all their hulls, hasn't been used for a long time.

There are a few basic upgrades you can add to vastly improve this model, the first of which is adding an armored cover to the driver's hatch.
I've built two Paladins, one from Ft. Sill, and one from Ft. Hood, and there are differences.
The latch for the left side hatch is on top on one version, and on the side on the other. There's also a difference in the pattern of the no-slip texture. I'm currently stuck at YPG so I can't remember which version had which location, but I looked at enough at each post to conclude that the differences were indeed consistent within thier respective installations.
Another mistake in the kit which is the same on all Paladins I've seen is the stowage boxes on the back. They are NOT the two long ones used in the original Italeri kit, although those parts can be used as a basis for the new boxes. You'll also need to add the auxiliary door lock at the rear, missing in the kit.
The recuperator housing needs a ot of little bolts and gussets added to it, as well as a scratch built chronograph mount. The comander's gun mount and ring needs a lot of TLC as well.
Lastly (again, apologies as this is all off the top of my head) the hatch on the left front turret has a raised edge. It needs to be sanded off and scribed in.
Hopefully while I'm here I can get some good photos of the Crusader, which they've got under a large cammo net right now.
