I'm sure this has been addressed before but I'm new. Which is the best early Sherman variant to get? Cost is no object.

If cost was no object, I would get myself one of those 1:9 scale fully loaded remote control beasts.
Ohh yesss.
What scale do you look for anyway?

Is this a trick question? The solution is to get them all

OK -- get a Formations M4A1 kit; add the lower hull from a Italeri M4A1; get a Finemolds, Eduard or Aber PE set; tracks from RHPS, Fruil or AFV; buy a Hunnicutt SHERMAN book; get the MMIR Sherman book; re-read every Sherman post on ML for the last four years; look at the gallery on ML for the next four years; etc.

Should give you a few ideas ...

cost is no object? I'll send you the "ulitimate" Sherman parts for a mere $1,000.

Although Hollowpoint is right, perhaps here's a more practical answer:

By early, I'm assuming like one used by US forces in N Africa or perhaps Italy. If this is OK then go here:

1A) Formations M4A1 conversion kit (Kit F001 or F031) to be added to Italeri M4A1 hull.

2) Tamiya M4 with Formations kit F009, the detail set for it.

3) RHPS tracks
4) ABER PE set
5) top it off with hatches from Tiger Model Designs
