Hi all:

Here I posted some images of my dio about the DAK.
I finished the ground simulation, an Sdkfz 223 and a 37 mm antitank gun.
The place is suposed to be Tunisia in early 43.
Now IŽm in the painting proces of a set of Dragon figures of the DAK. IŽll place them in the dio I think tomorrow. When done IŽll post more pics.

Coments will be appriciated.

Looking good, one thing the tires on gun look too shiny.

One thing I noticed was that none of the tires have left any tracks. Other than that great job! Nice subtle weathering. I think desert shrubs are the only thing lichen is useful for. Are you going to add any figures to the scene?

Carlos, an excellent dio...I have to agree there should be some tracks from the vehicle and also from placememnt of the anti tank gun, a couple foot prints also might lend a bit to the scene. Good job. Cheers Kevin

Very nice. I like the composition and your choice of figures. The scene looks very natural.

A few things which, I think, would improve the dio:

1) Since this is in a desert, I think putting up a generous amount of dust on the vehicke would do very well. It will also show that this vehicle has been running around the desert, probably doing a recon patrol. You can also put a good amount of dust on the AT gun and the crates.

2) I also have the old Tamiya sdkfz 222. If it is still possible, replace the rods with the white balls with pins. Cut out the balls and re-attatch them to the pins by super glue. Attatch the new pins to the original position. The kit rods are too thick.

3) Add a little bit more of stowage on the 222...maybe another net or two, some ropes, extra jerrycans, ration boxes, etc. Make it look like they are set for a recon patrol. I got the idea when I saw a picture of an sdkfz 222 with a whole lot of stowage.

4) Also, add a thin piece of copper wire running from the square antenna of the vehicle down to its hull.

5) How about a few shells lying around the AT gun?

This is very beautiful dio.

This is a very well layed out dio. I love the feel of it. But seeing how it is a desert scene...i agree with Angela, there would be a fair amount of dust on everything..as it is now..the scene appears to be too clean..But other than that..the figures look great and there placement looks excellent also...Keep up the good work.

Thanks to all for the nice words and coments. IŽll see what I can do with the foot steps, tracks and gral dust.

Thanks and regards.

I agree with all the points made so far, maybe a couple of rifles of something lying on the ground on leaning on the 222, perhaps some pieces of cloth or something round the mens necks that they would use to keep the sand out of their faces in sand storms. And also, one of the rear supports for the gun seems to be 'hovering' a bit in the air, don't know whats up with that.

Hi,

Great looking verhicle, I think that the wheels are too shiny.
I think that the end of the barrel from the gun should be matt black. It looks like it has never fired.

And hasn't these vehicle a lot of chips??

Ola Carlos

That is a great diorama you have there. Well a lot is already said on it. Tire tracks, Dust, Spend rounds etc.
My addition would be to run a thick black wash to the engine grill behind the turret. It has absolutely no depth now which is a pitty. Also you could add some filoters to make the vehicle appear a bit bleached by the sun somethign that happens quite fast. Adding some chips here and there and run along the lines of the vehicle with pencillead to show some bare metal. Works brilliant.
Further it is a nice dio mate.

Great Job

everybody seems to be making a good point, overall. I mean it is "deserty", so to speak, pero, I know for a fact that even though it is North Africa, Tunisia is somewhat more temperant than say, Libya. I mean, I have photos of soldiers in Libya wearing uniforms that are not tropical, like the high lether boots, etc. I mean, the 222 can be chipped, but it may look bad if there is too much chipping. Personally, for a better effect, I've used oils, in various way, to get the right effect based upon where the vehicle was. It would be cool to see chipping and the figs look cool and all, but just that last bit of whether can really achieve the perfect effect. Pero, que bueno.
