Peter,
Those are smoke candles. They are operated from the interior of the tank by way of a cable release system.When the cable release is engaged the arm moves upwards and the front panel swings open releasing the smoke candles. I hope that makes sense to you.

I have only seen them on Sherman V's and VC's. But thats not to say they werent used on anything else either. So perhaps someone else has a pic of them on a Cromwell or something.

So they're ok on a Sherman Tulip converted from the DML Firefly Vc hull with a Tamiya M4 turret?
