Thanks Sabot, yes its the PST kit, but I did add the Part PE set and did a small amount of detail work with hypodermic tubing and strip stryene.

Scott, I take the base color, add 10% more thinner, and add a couple drops of buff to the color cup, mix well, then slowly build up the lighter color in the center of panel areas.

John ...it is hard to believe this kit is 1/72 scale ..Damn I'd have trouble doing all those details in 1/35 th scale... ..Your work is inspiring ...I'm reading your article in MMiR on your schwim... Wow nice work there too...
Keep up the great work sir.

Thanks Bear, The kit, with a little bit of work, is very nice, and with a little bit of magnification the PE was pretty straight foward.

Hell, I'm interested John!

Beautiful work. I would have bet my boss' paycheck (I would never bet my own) it was 1/35th or larger.

Keep those progress pics coming.

Oh, I doubt that. I bet folks are looking, just not commenting.

BTW--how did you add the black 'demarcation' outlines between the two camo colors? Freehand? Airbrush?? Looks cool.

I am sure you are correct Keith, would just be nice to hear some feedback.

The black line is freehand, as is all the camo. Vallejo paints if thinned with their thinner can be laid down in very dilute coats, and will build up to good color with no "step" that you can get with masking.

BTW its done, except for the figs.

Simply amazing work for that scale. You are truly an artist. I'm reading your article as well John. You really did a wonderful job on the schwimwagen as well. Again It is very hard to believe the KV is 1/72 scale.

Keith, I usually don't look in the Armor/AFV section much, but i had to kill some time waiting on paint to dry and man am i glad i did. I love the look of the smaller scale. And you my friend have did a wonderful job. I can't believe you did that camo all freehand. Hard Edge camo..i don't think i could keep a steady hand for that. Great work!!
BTW..where is this article on the schwimwagen. I want to do one of those and i'd love to read your technique.

Keith, nice brailler my friend. What did you use for your hard edge camo mask? I use silly putty myself. Works great. Again, nice build. "Q"

Hello Mary, My name is John, not Keith, but thanks for the comments. My article on the schwimmwagen can be found in Issue 37 of Military Minitures in Review (MMiR) Should still be on the news stands now.

What did you use for your hard edge camo mask?

Again Matt my name is John, not Keith. The camo is totally free hand no masks. The PE is so delicate at 1.72 that I was afraid I would damage the kit too much masking.

Thanks all comments appreciated!

Now where did I get Keith at? Sorry about that. Freehand? Excellent work. Would never know it was freehand by looking. "Q"

Matt & Mary,
Keith here. You guys probably got confused 'cuz I have been 'talking' to John throughout this thread. Common mistake (been there myself).

I do build braille stuff, 1/87th ROCO armor, but no where near the quality work John does.

JOHN: Is that mud I see behind the running gear and on the chassis? My God, you must work with binoculars, or have the eyesight of an Arctic Turn! Fantastic!

Keith you are too kind. As to the mud, yep it's there,a s well as grass. Here is a progress pic just after it was applied.

And here is the stuff its made from:

As to Magnification - YOU BET, no way I could do this scale without it. I use a binoculor set of loops at 3x mag.

Very nice camouflage pattern. What kind of markings/pattern is this tank carrying? Seems a lot more interesting than the regular dark green or white wash we are used to seeing.

John, I'm more impressed every time you post another pic... excellent work for any scale, indeed. I'm also curious about that camo scheme, would like to do something similar.

Thanks guys. The tank represents one of the KV-1C's used by the 52nd Red Guards Tank Brigade during the summer and early fall of 1942 at the Trans-caucasian front.
