Is anyone else digusted with the poor quality of so-called resin "super-kits." I have read horror story after horror story in modeling publications on these kits. Mis-matched parts, deformed parts, broken parts, muddled instructions and yet the builder/author recommends the kit? I have purchased a couple of detail kits and found their quality control to be wanting. Before I plunk down $100 + bucks I want to know I am getting my monies worth. Otherwise, I'll stick to Tamiya, at least their kits fit together.

Yep, yup, yes, and AMEN...
Don't buy the Jaguar M551 Sheridan unless you really want to stretch the limits of modeling sanity! It seems these super-kits are super-wallet-suckers...

Some of those kits are superb : they offer models that are not available in plastic. Resin figures can be soooooo much better than plastics. Some aftermarket add-ons are spledid.
But other resin kits (so many of them) just plain suck. (Pardon my Dutch).
Now you can say all the bad things about resin you want, but there's certainly nothing wrong with THIS resin kit

My experience with resin kits is limited to Accurate Armor's Super Pershing. In fact I just posted a forum topic on that build on September 24th, (you may want to review it if you get a chance). For me, resin was a challenge.
As you stated, resin is pricey, and unfortunately that price doesn't necessarily translate into the high quality moldings we may be expecting.
If I had my situation to do over, I'd buy a Dragon M26 and scratch build the parts to make the Super Pershing, (and pocket about $70 in savings). But, live and learn. For now we can at best be forewarned. I've found this site invaluable in learning about kit builds from other modelers. If the kits a stinker somebody here will tell us, and then we can make a decision from there.
I'm sure you agree this is a great hobby with many opportunities to build quality models. I wish you well, and thank you for your comment.

I've built kits from most of the major companies and have found dogs as well solid gold from the same manufacturer. Yes it can be frustrating and some stuff there is no excuse for.
Gut I've also seen people complain about a few bubbles or such . thats why its called modelling. I guess we alll need to decide just how much we want to acertain kit , because there's nothing perfect about our hobby.

I agree with most of you people here, although I only built one resin set so far, but I am happy with it (Tank Workshop, Partial Tiger interior) As long as it's modelling, I am happy with it. I think dog and gold existing everywhere, you got some plastic kits that are prety bad as well. I think it's because of the price tag attached to the resin stuff, so people have a higher expectation.

I have only done two major resin projects before, but I was pleased with both of them. The first was the all resin Fiat Topolino by Model VIctoria. It fit together really well, but ,of course, the model is pretty small. I also used the same company's conversion kit for my M13/40. Though not a full model, there were a lot of pieces, including some major hull modifications, and they really worked out well. I guess the lesson here is to buy stuff from Model Victoria Unfortunately, they only make Italian WWII subjects, so your choices are limited

Resin is the choice in figures... No plastic can make the facial details so crisp. Once you try resin figures you'll never go back to plastic.

Darn! Someone made a copy of my girlfriend again! #:-)
Dave,
All I did was suspend her in a silicone mixture for a few hours. Messed up her hair a bit, but she said she liked the experience. Reducing her size to 1:8 was a bit more painful, though !
About this figure : During the last ten years, hundreds of voluptuous daimsels in all sort of distress and assorted undergarnment have been resin-ed. Lately, I see more and more of these Japanese Manga - figures. Some are really nice.

I have just recently completed a partial interior for a Panther by The Tank Workshop and am starting a full interior and engine compartment for a Pzkpfw. III L by the same company. In my experience (which is somewhat limited) The Tank Workshop is probably the best resin interior maker around. There is ususally no damage to the parts and the instructions are as good or better than other aftermarket resin interior companies. If only they were in color...

Here is what I've found in my limited experience:
Sovereign 2000 - great resin kits with very little clean-up needed and great packaging so no broken parts; instructions are great (Panzer III Ausf A)
Cromwell - o.k. kits; a lot of clean-up needed, but no broken parts; not for beginners; instructions are not horrible, but not great either (Panzer II Ausf. A)
Tiger Werke - great resin kits with very little clen-up; one piece was shattered during shipping but was promptly replaced by the manufacturer; instructions are great (10.5cm leFH18 (Sf) Auf Geschutzwagen Hotchkiss 39H(f))
Tank Workshop - great interior and update sets; very well done and I've never had a broken part; instructions decent (T-34 updates, details, and conversions and SdKfz 223 interior)
Royal Model - good, but packaging sucks and I've found numerous broken parts; instructions o.k. (updates and accessories)
Verlinden - good, but once again packaging was wanting in my example and parts were broken; instruction decent (Grant CDL)
MB Models - good; packaging not great but thankfully no broken parts; instructions decent (conversions for the BT-5)
MR Models - good; well packed with no broken parts and little cleanup; instructions stink (conversions for the BT-5)
Tiger Model Designs - great; I haven't bought anything that could have been broken short of being smashed with a sledge-hammer though; haven't needed instructions (I got a mantlet/barrel combo and replacement PUMA wheels)
Commander Series Models - good; well packed; instructions decent (conversions for the BT-5)
Jaguar - good, well packed; instructions stink (I only have the Lynx update set and Jagdtiger interior)
