Hi Everyone, It has been awhile since I have posted any of my in progress work and I thought I would show the progress on my Ardennes campaign entry. All comments welcome and appreciated.
Thanks for having a look. Cheers Kevin

I really like this, your off to a great start. Your ground work looks fantastic, and I love the paint job on the Hetzer. Can't wait to see more.

But its looking great so far mate, the groundwork is excellent!

Glad to get a look at this beauty. The tree positioning and height is great, it provides backdrop and focus down and right. Nicely done.
My one comment is that the grass in the middle of the little road seems a bit high. The road looks a bit to established and traveled to have grass that high. Just my 2 cents. It won't be as apparent as figures and such are added.

Kevin,
Once again, a masterpiece is emerging. The foliage is terrific; the underbrush beneath the trees adds dramatically to the overall appearance of the forest. Very well done.

The diorama is looking great so far, especially the undergrowth there at the intersection. Is that rubberised horsehair? Are you planning on adding snow to this one?

Hi Everyone, I am glad to see everyone likes the new dio so far. I guess that means i am doing something right To answer a few questions, I am not sure yet if i will have snow on the dio. A few people have told me to leave it alone not to cover this ground work. One thought is that maybe I will just have it appear that the snow has just started to fall. What does everyone else think? Paul- the tress is made by tapering wood dowels and adding bragdon enterprises branches. If you look at my first article it will explain
https://armorama.kitmaker.net//features/374
i also gave the branches a misting of olive drab to tone down the bright green some of them come with. Keith- that is indeed rubberised horsehair, Good eye!!! Again thanks for the comments, and any one else please feel free to comment good or bad. Cheers Kevin

Kevin about the snow, I am very biased towards snow I love the stuff! But I think your dio would look great with snow. Now I am not talking about heaps but maybe along the edges of the roads and a little build up around the sherman.

I agree with all here Kev! Think that it has a good composition, even though it is quite symmetrical and 'shouldn't' look as good as it does! Me reckons it is the variation in the ground levels, and the height of the trees and position. Keen-eye!
That's it! "Keen-eye Kevin!"

Firts: thanks for the link to your article about the trees.
Second: If you ask me, my first impression was: An Ardennes Offensive without snow???
:-)
But I have a couple of books about this offensive and a real lot of pictures, and end december in some regions the snow was less to none. For instance near Manhay; the pictures show no snow, date: 23 december... Bastogne however was covered by a thick layer of snow at that time.
So, it's 'historical OK' if you're not using the white stuff.
And I can understand the hesitation, while the dio looks so great now...

Kevin -
Magnificently done. Those pine trees are terrific and beautifully executed, so real looking. They would work great for my "Ardennes" dio as your basic groundwork/layout is very similar (in approach, but my quality as I've got plenty to do to get anywhere near) to my diorama. If only you had a ditch for my jeep, it would be a almost a perfect fit! Anyway, many thanks for the outstanding examples as I can "go to school" on your work. Very anxious to see this progress to completion.
