Anyone familiar with this French MBT know what style tracks (US, W. German) most closely resemble the French tracks?
The Heller 1/72 scale AMX-30 comes with vinyl tracks that more closely resemble a miniature fan belt than actual tank tracks.
According to On The Way, the tracks appear to look like M48 tracks. If this is truly so, I can rob some of my old Esci M48 or Leopard 1 kits.
At close inspection of the boxart, they look more like late M4A3E8 HVSS tracks. If this is so, I can rob my old Hasegawa M4A3E8 Sherman and hole they fit.
Anyone know what they really look like?
Here's a link to the review of the kit: http://www.ontheway.us/reviews/Heller/hellerAMX30_105prev.htm

Hi Robin,
to my knowledge they are really specific tracks even if the rubber pads look like post WW2 US ones.
Here is the best pic I got of the tracks.
Have a look at this site chars francais dedicated to French armor. It may help you.

2 more pictures (from http://www.tanxheaven.com )
These pics actually show the "Rolland" and "Pluton" variants based on the AMX 30 chassis so I'm quite sure the tracks are the same...

Those look close enough to an M48 set of tracks that in 1/72 scale I can fake. The Heller kit tracks are very bad. Some of the worst I've seen on a 1/72 scale kit.

Ah ha! Found some aftermarket AMX-30 tracks! Thanks for your help with the close up photos of the tracks. Here's what I found:

Now, do either of you have access to a place that sells ADV resin accessories there in France? I would appreciate any assistance in obtaining two sets of the tracks.

Hi Rob
Maybe you should get in touch with Azimut Productions in Paris (they are "closely related" to ADV stuff) Their phone number is 00-33-01-44-59-33-44 (fax number : 00-33-01-44-59-33-48) They don't have a website. The P&P cost = 10% of the order (with a 10 Euros minimum). I have rarely seen ADV stuff in my local LHS here in Lyon....
