I just picked up Tamiya's German HANOMAG Sdkfz251/1, and was wondering if anyone has tips for assembly, painting, etc. I'd like to do an Afrika Korps scheme (did the Germans not know how to spell?) with a moderate amount of weathering; Mainly chipped paint and some dirt and grime. Also, how could I improve the figures in this kit? It looks like someone drilled little holes where their eyes are...
Thanks,
YodaMan

YodaMan, the Feb 2002 issue of Military In Scale magazine has a cover article covering the Sd.Kfz.250/3 half-track "Greif". This has some good information...

And the March 2002 issue will have an article on the command version as well.

Yoda,
Archer Fine Transfers makes dry transfers of 1/35 eyes. You could try them.

BTW, I just took a look at my Tamiya 251/1. It looks like Tamiya molded a small depression where the pupil is. First try just a bit of white around the depression, see how it turns out.
Hope this helps.

Thanks all !!! Heh, if I find out about any more scale model magazines, I'm gonna go broke... unless I buy less model kits (which isn't likely). Also, what color were the uniforms in the Afrika Korps? Is there some kind of website with this info so I don't ask the same stuff over and over? Thanks again.

Actually, I looked for the Military in Scale magazine at Hastings the other day, but I didn't see it. Where can I get it? I also noticed that I misspelled the title for this forum, I guess that's a reason not to type while battling a cold...

What I do is go to Great Models Webstore (http://www.greatmodels.com) and setup a Magazine Subscription order with them. You pick from the line they carry, and when you set the initial subscription up, they will automatically send you the latest issue of that magazine when it arrives in their warehouse. That way if you want to get them, and aren't trying to be the first guy on the block to read his issue, then this is a nice way to go. I get all my model mags this way and don't beat down the hobby shops looking for issues.

Hey Yodaman, here are some things on the Hanomag 251/1. Enjoy.

and here's a build-up of the same kit:

And finally here is a build-up of different German vehicle, but has a finish that I think you may be after. It includes a couple of links to further your help in the "Painting" section:
