Baking soda over white glue. Best and cheapest solution that I've ever found.

Fergie -

First, welcome to Armorama. You're soon to found out what a terrific site this is for sharing and gaining modeling experiences. The only things better are the many people that make this such a fantastic "family" to be associated with.
For snow, the baking soda and white glue works well as does using Woodland Scenics "Snow" if you don't mind the expense. For mud, I've been try the mixing of white glue with the appropriate colors of acrylics and thinning with water (or not) depending on the thickness wanted. I also have been adding terrain "flocking" to give texture. Hope this helps some. Looking forward to hearing more from you and keep us posted on progress

Woodland Scenics SN140 'Snow' is pretty a good product. I belive it is "micro-balloons"
Easy to work with..end product looks good and stays white.
Mud: mix raw umber/ burnt umber acrylic tint with spackling paste. The mixture fomula is up to you dependant on end color you desire. You can spread the stuff, clump it on with an old brush, or let it dry and break up the chunks and spread over the area you want (dug up road ways etc) This used in conjuncture with MMP powers earth/dark earth can get some very credible results.
Cheers,
Charles

I like to use Alum. For a light dusting, use the alum sprinkled over thinned white glue. For deeper snow, use celluclay for depth, then sprinkle Alum on over thinned white glue for texture. You can get Alum at your local pharmacy or chemist for you guys on the other side of the pond.

Hightly diluted mixture of white glue sprinkled with a fat layed of baking soda( the soda aborbs the water and become hard) this gives good results for old, hard snow, if you want brand new snow, you can prinkle soda on your base and keep it in place with spraynet. try diferent thigns out.

For mud, muxing white glue with grounded coffe, and some acrylic paints gives super nice results, the more water you add, the less of that coffee texture you get

I don't know if its because its winter but a lot of people are making winter dios!.

I just started one a month ago, set on the ostfront during winter 43-44 and featuring german AA halftrack and groundcamp. It's my third dio but it's the first that I really planned and put effort into to get right.

So I enjoy very much reading you guys. It seems there are many skillful masters around here and the info is just streaming day after day. Nice board.

Ho, it's my 1rst message on your board, I just registered few minutes ago, so "Hi everybody!"

Salutation ben spécial aux autres québécois sur le forum. Je vous vois souvent répondre aux threads sur la neige! C'est bizzare...

Ciao
