Thanks, the PE zim is the Verlinden set for the Tamiya kit which I modified to fit the DML (quite a chore).

Uh, dude, that's just a work surface not a Dio base. I use the routed grooves as ajig to assemble Fruil track.

Great job Crockett, the zimmerit looks awesome, did you paint the numbers on the turret yourself?

Very nice Tiger, very nice indeed.

The paintjob, the camo, the zimmerit and the subtle weathering is all outstanding.

Thanks to all,

Kevin and Neil,

The verlinden zim set for the Tamiya kit is, of course, dimensionally way off for the DML Henschel King. Had I known that the two kits were so different, I probably would have hand applied the zim. I was truly amazed, as an example, that the turret face and hull front glacis is 2 to 3 mm narrower on the Tamiya kit vs. the DML.
I had to fill in the gaps with Tamiya putty and use the Tamiya zim tool to make it all come together. I also had to drill the clevis holes in the rear lifting eye extensions to match the zim panel. These were off a good 2mm.

The markings are dry transfers, Archer makes a huge generic selection for German Armor. the transfers are the only way to go over zim IMHO.

I have since graduated to home made zim, I don't really care for the PE or resin sets.

This late Tiger 1 was my first attempt and now I'm sold.

Regards,

Steve

You might want to check out the super-thin resin Cavalier brand. Their's is for the Tamiya, but they also released a set that you can cut to the desired shape yourself that runs around $15. That DML is a nice kit. I've built one Tamiya with the Cavalier set and it came out great. I still have 2 more Tamiya KT's so it doesn't look like I'll pick up a dragon version, but it looks great

Crockett Very nice work on the Tigers! The Zim on both looks very good. PE Zim is not my favorite either. It is too hard to replicate damaged or chipped zimmeret with it. Years ago there was a manufacturer who made a heavy paper type. I have used that with good results. I have also used Cavalier it looks great right from the box.I have yet to attempt to so my own. Your Tiger I looks great, I may just have to try.
