I want to build a Sherman. Can anyone recommend a good kit that won't break my wallet?
Thanks

First off, welcome to armorama. You joined at just the right time. As wierd as we seem, we're actually a nice bunch of people with more collective knowledge than you can learn in a lifetime.

You asked the right question at the right time.....Right now, Modelexpo is having a supersale on the 1/35th M4A1. They're selling for 5.99. Look in the general modelling forum for details.

We're also gearing up for a group build of the M4A1. Gonna start on October 1st.

Have fun,

One of the three newer Tamiya Shermans, M4 Early, M4A3 75mm, M4A3 105mm are great starter kits and run around $30, give or take. Also the new USMC M4 is a decent kit by Italeri and usually under $30.

The old Italeri M4A1 is a great kit too.

Hi and welcome to the site As for Shermans, the Tamiya kits are great to build as are the Italeri, just finished the Italeri USMC Sherman, what a neat build no major problems at all.You will find the Tamiya Shermans more expensive up here in Canada than the Italeri Shermans. The M4 Early version goes for around $44 CDN,while the Italeri kits are in the 20's.
Have fun

Or you can try building one of the Israeli M50/51 series vehicles from Academy or DML. They're in the same 30 dollar price range.

If you're new to armor, I'd steer clear of the DML/Dragon kits because of their individual track llinks. Not bad to deal wit, but labor intensive. The Italeri kits have the advantage of filled in sponsons and no motor holes which plague so many older Tamiya kits. I've built the hulls from several Italeri kits and a Tamiya kit for conversions and had no problems with either.
