The Army has improved the old HMMWV machine gun mount. Looks a lot like the way machine guns were mounted way back in WW2:

Interesting. The pedestal looks like it is telescoping for a height difference. I also havn't seen the support for the bipod on the M249 before; all I've seen is the bipod sprung out forward. Is that new or not? Thanks for sharing.

Looks like they took what units were building themselves and made an official kit for it. Many of the units in Iraq were making their won mounts that were failing and became unsafe. Glad there is now an official kit. Pedestal mount is very effective in the back of HMMWVs and cargo trucks. Good deal.

Pretty neat. That looks like it would be fairly easy to scratchbuild.
