I was at the local (metro Detroit) Barnes & Nobles last night and found the NBC & CBS OIF books w/DVDs on sale for $6 each. They also had another OIF photo book on sale as well...can't remember which one it was but also $6.
They are not the ultimate reference materials, but are well worth the $6 price. The NBC book has some photos from the Thunder Runs-which I have found to be very hard to get!

Yes Jim, when I saw these two books at the local B&N I didn't have any second thoughts & just bought them. For $6 each plus the DVD's I think they were a bargain. Got mine about 2 weeks ago.

So how is the OIF book by NBC as a reference book? What kinds of reference photos are included in it? What types of vehicles are in the photos?

Petition (Pete for short?- just kidding)
They are pretty good, so long as your expectations are in line with what you are getting.
They are NOT detailed examinations of weapons, equipment, vehicles, aircraft, etc. The scope of coverage is quite wide, from US and Brit Army, Marine to aircraft to Iraq.
They (especially the NBC book) contain a lot of good photos of the war in progress...from buildup to combat to the end of OIF1. The NBC book is 225 pgs, roughly a picture a page. It does have some pics from Thunder Run and some pictures of the Bloom-mobile (the late David Bloom's OIF TV Comm vehicle). What little I have read of it so far tends to be sorta the embed's story, but like I said I have not read much.
CBS book is shorter at 162 pgs and seems to have less pics/page.
Both books have a lot of great pictures for diorama ideas and each of them have DVDs. At $6 each you can't go wrong.
Hope that helps...
Jim
PS- They also had "In the Company of Heroes" by Michael Durant (Mogadishu...) for $6 as well. I snagged one of those as well.

I just bought the book and watched about half of the DVD. Both book and DVD are excellent! All these new diorama ideas are popping up in my head. Reality of war is gruesome and shocking as portrayed in the book and DVD but at least I should honor our men and women in arms with modeling. Thanks for the tip folks!
