Here's a new vignette that with some help from Kevin Gardner, Mary Langley, and my lovely wife Friday night went to the Des Moines model show. It really isn't finished quite yet ,there are some touch ups I need to do, and a lot more junk I would like to put in the barn. This was my first attempt to work with large scale figures. They are the Verlinden 506th PIR figures. I don't want to slam them too much, but I will say that they are not the quality I am use to from Verlinden... I scratch built the barn from pink insulation foam. The paint was a combination of Model Masters, and Tamiya acylics. All weathering was done with pastels and other weathering powders.
There are many more photo's in my gallery please have a look and tell me what you think. I scratched built the hardware for the rifle and thompson gun slings. Added the pin's to the grenades. Many of the straps had to be removed and replaced as the modling of them was not particularly good. When I recieved the kits there were flaws and problems throughout. The M-1 Garand was poorly detailed, I resculpted the op rod using some scrap resin and gunzy sangyo putty. The Thompson machine guns barrel was missing from the front of forearm, this was handeled by brass tubing and scrap resin for the sight blade on the tip. Despite all the flaws in the figures this was a fun build and my wife and enjoyed Kevin and Mary's visit we had a great time.

Paul,
Bravo, very well done. The figures look excellent. I particularly like the barn and the moss on the roof. The pic from inside looking towards the door is a story all of it's own.
Excellent work

Thanks everyone I appreciate the comments! Anything to be critical of? As I was taking phto's of it yesterday I see all the things I missed, I had to laugh to myself about that. It was really more work than I originally anticipated.

Hi Paul,
I like this vignette very much. It is very good detailed and much work done on it. Painting of the figures and the goose is amazing. All these works look great when they are realized with family support. (Take care what your wife says, they're always right )
I have just one critic, it would be good to modelate the sectioned part of the stone wall. Can be seen in the fourth picture.
cheers

Fantastic paint job on the figures Paul. Whatever shortcomings of the model you mentioned have been far outweighed by your ability to really flesh out the details.
Nice touch on the broom. I can almost hear the goose squawking. I can see a bit of Kevin's and Mary's influence on the flowers and vegetation too if I'm not mistaken.

Paul,
Really, really nice!!! I love the building, love the flora, love the figs. I only wish I wasn't such a sissy when it comes to doing figures
Additional pluses (+): the broom and rake (?), moss on the roof, the door and window, and....the figure painting. I'm keeping your photos (the link) as a reference for shading, highlighting, etc. for the time ( ) when I do my figures in that potentially "over ambitious" dio I'm planning .
Negatives(?): None that my untrained eye can see...other than "homey" in the 1st and 4th picture (with the Garand) looks kinda "stiff," like he passed some bad gas :-) . Yet in the 5th picture he looks rather natural...angle
WOW!!!!! Three, no FOUR for you! GOLD all the way.
Sincerely,
Mike
