Just curious if anyone knows where pics or info could be found on the prototype pic of the M18 hull fitted with the M36 turret featured in the Squadron "Tank Destroyers" publication. They don't give much info, just two pics and a brief description of firing trials.

those may be the only pictures there are of it. of the 3 photos in Squadrons book one says and I quote...

"the 90mm "Super Hellcat" proved to be a very effective conversion and whould have been placed in service if the war with japan had not ended. With the surrender of Japan there was no need for this vehicle and the project was canceled in the fall of 1945. "

I've had one on the bench before I got mobilized. I think one of the books by Hunnicutte cove this subject. The Sherman book I believe.

I doubt that, as it is more a TD than a Sherman variant. will take a look in my copy tomorrow though, I'll get back on this.
