I have a noticed something that needs correcting I think. It's about the regions of our countries of origin.
The proper English spelling of the capital of Bulgaria is Sofia.
Thanks in advance

Nikola,
I thought "Sofiya" was an alternate spelling or perhaps an older version of the name. It's all over the net as such anyways.

Thanks,
Jim

Brings to mind something I've always wondered about.

Why is the city in which I was born called "Munich"??

The fine citizens that LIVE there call it Muenchen. (Sorry, no umlaut on my keyboard!)

If it's good enough for the people who live there, shouldn't the rest of us spell it and say it the same way?

And what about Koln? In English, we don't even spell it with the same first letter! What's up with that??

The correct spelling is Sofia, and the reason is that it's pronounced short and the stress falls on the "o", while in English it is at the end of the word.
Thataway, it's a bit different from Muenchen, 'cause we use the cyrillic alphabet and you would have real difficulty in managing that.
Cheers!
