Ok...I am confused. Why does the army seem to call its "Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Trucks", HEMMTs and not HEMTTs?

Seems odd. Someone contacted me about a possible error in the current spelling for Pete's HEMMTs, but on a gut feeling I thought I would double-check the web and sure enough I found official US military sites calling them HEMMTs.

Anyone know the mystery of this?

That's a mystery to me Jim - I've only seen them referred to as "HEMTT". Curiouser and curiouser

Rob would have answered this had I given him the time....hehe

But I found the explanation. In typical US Government fashion both are acurate designations of different vehicles. The document below refers to:

Heavy Extended Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT)

and

Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMMT)

http://airdefense.bliss.army.mil/wwamdc/10TSM-TMD/CDRconf-VREP%5B1%5D.doc

Mystery somewhat solved. Ok...now Rob can tell us the difference. LOL

Quoted Text

Heavy Extended Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT)

and

Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMMT)

Ok...now Rob can tell us the difference. LOL

Actually it's Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) (looking at the CD ROM TM right now).

There's also the M989 or M989A1 trailer also called HEMAT (Heavy Expanded Mobility Ammunition Trailer). The HEMMT vs HEMTT controversy is probably a typo done by a little old lady in tennis shoes who collates the TMs. When I put the ETM in the CD ROM, it shows up as HEMMT, but all the manuals are titled HEMTT.

Pete,
I think you used the HEMMT version, but not 100% sure of that.

The shear number of Google search responses for "HEMMT truck" would seem to indicate that there must be something to that abriviation also.

My Fellow Modelers---it is not a matter of faith or trust, the correct and only abbreviation is HEMTT. If some duck hunter calls it something else they are wrong. This is the reason why we have not shot down an enemy airplane since the Korean War.

DJ,
LOL.... I like Rob's explanation. Some dolt made a typo and the whole Internet community picked up on it.
