Depends on which model. A late version, such as an Ausf H or J, certainly would. It may also have been used on late model Ausf G's

Now that just throws a monkey wrench into the pot! Zimmerit on 2 different tanks raked in both horizontal and vertical fashion in actual pictures! I think that I'm going to need a bromo-seltzer.

Nope, that isn't unexpexted at all. Remember, Pz 4's were built in 3 or 4 different factories, so differences would and (obviously) did exsist.

The Ausf D would NOT have had Zimmerit applied. Its use only began in 1943 and an early model like the Ausf D would have been withdrawn from front-line service by then.

all zummerit usage was discontinued after November of '44. It could have been used on a D if the D was around in '44. Many were rebuilt using the L/48 main gun and some had zummerit.

I agree with Chris. My understanding is Zimmerit is not as much as a limit to a certain type of vehilce but more as a time period thing, besides you need to remember that some Zimmerit is not applied in the factroy and is field applied, so in this case. I think it might be possible that a D could also fashion zimmerit.

If you are building the Ausf. D as it is suppossed to be out of the box (i.e. as a D or E), DO NOT apply zimmerit. D's and E's were withdrawn from frontline service well before zimmerit came into use. If you are planning on building it as a rebuilt D mounting L/48 as Chris mentioned you might want to think about applying zimmerit.
