Hi,

Can anyone tell me if the Acadamy M10 tank is a good kit or do you nee a lot of aftermarket sets for it?

Is 20,50 Euro a decent price?

Ronny:

The Academy M10 kit is very nice. I don't know the current exchange rate, but if 1 Euro = $1 US, that is a good price.

I have built both the Academy and AFV Club M10 kits and personnaly like the Academy kit better. One big advantage is that the Academy kit has ammo for the open-topped turret -- AFV Club's ammo racks are empty.

You may want to replace the tracks, however. The three-bar cleat track in the kit is nice, but was not very commnly used on M10s. This is a nit-picky fix you may choose to ignore.

Hi me again,

Tnx for the reply's, but know I am confused

Someone told me that Academy has a older M-10 model which is a rip-off of the old Tamiya kit (not verry good)

Can someone tell me if the box art is from the new or old kit?

Tnx again

The box art is of Academy Kit No. 1393. This is from Academy's website:

The last review I posted above points to this exact same kit number. It does not mention whether it is a Tamiya rip-off. The third review posted has pictures of the kit's sprues.

Will agree I also have it but not the AFV one. It is a good kit for the money and does it not have the little casting numbers on the suspension parts? (:-)

The old Academy M-10 kit was a rip off of the old Tamiya kit. It had a photo of the built kit. The current M-10 is a modern tooled kit and has the above box art. There is also an Achilles boxed version. Recommended kit, the only other choice is the very nice AFV Club M-10.

Here is a write up on the accuracy of the two turrets.

That is a picture of the new kit.

And the fact you can get it for about 20 euros makes me envious!! That's a lot cheaper than the US pricing of that kit.

I have that kit, and the 17 pounder M10 on the shelf, and there are lots of goodies in the box!

Buy it and enjoy!

Hello everybody!

I would certainly recommend both AFV's and Academy's M10. They are very good kits. You can't go wrong! Get yourself an M18 too and don't forget that Academy is soon to release the M36.

Hellcat--great to have you with us. Great site and I am sure you will enjoy interfacing with your fellow modelers. I am a Sherman fanatic, but do love those M10, M 36 and M18s. I was very pleased with the Tamiya kits and their growth potential. I am in the midst of completing the Italeri M4 USMC Sherman and then we are onto an M4A1 group build. I'll get to thast Academy M-10 yet. If you are a history buff or want to discuss current event we have two splendid forums available. (This is a plug for getting more people involved, try it) Once again welcome and continue to contribute.
