As used on the M4's, does anyone have any more (than what I have) as far as how it was applied to the vehicles? I know it was like chicken wire and welded on but, in some of the pics I have, I see a "cable" like wire running across some of the jobs done. Does anyone have any more pics of this engineering job? The pics I have are too small for any great detail.
In case someone does not know what "sommerfield matting" was, it was applied to the vehicles to enable the crews to attach foliage for added camo.

Ken---I am spit balling here, but I think it is chicken wire used during the Normandy campaign. As for the wire, my recollection is that is communications wire. Black in color and fairly thick. I recall also seeing it on some grimy 4th AD tanks as they entered Germany. Someone may want to put more on the bones for you. Hope this assist your efforts. Some people replicated it and then placed oregano in the loops for camo.
