hi,

I wondered what is the best way to paint german camo on uniforms;

I often see great models painted with amazing camo such as waffen SS or Fallschirmjager.

what is the best way to do this(base colour, build up of colours,steps, final drybrush to weather the camo) and the smudges and dots on ss camo-uniforms are they applied with a toothpick or thick needle or just with a brush?

Ok, here we go. I took pics and I will explain to you step by step on painting SS "Oak" camoflage.

Step 1: BASE COAT

As you can see here, this is only the base coat, the simplest part. You will later find out that painting SS camo will be just as simple. I used italian dark brown mixed with white to acheive this color.

Step 2: Starting Camo

as you see in these pictures, this is also a pretty simple step. You pretty much make blobs on your camo. I used dark green and black to acheive this color.

Step 3: Starting "Dots"

Ok, you first want to put a number of dots somewhat spaced out. Only put them on the places where you put the dark green. When your done making the spaced out dots, start to fill in the spaces with more dots. Do not use a big brush on any of these steps! Use at most a .001 brush. This color was acheived by using khaki green with white.

Step 4: Final Results

Weather the camo by lightly drybrusing a khaki onto the highspots of the smock.

thank you so much for this reply, also the pics added really make it good to understand!

I know what I am going to do this week;

glueing together those Dragon SS-infantry guys to run along a Panzer IV or Tiger I (not sure on that one..gheghe).
But really thank you, now I can finally give it a try!
