Well, I got this tiny 1/144 release from trumpeter, the AAVP7A1 vehicle. It's my first attempt on painting modern armour so I don't really know what paint to use. I have access to humbrol, tamiya and testors paints, although I would like to use tamiya as I'm trying to switch to acrylics. Is the sand color the same for all OIF vehicles? I think I'll be doing some pre-shading, then I'll paint the base coat with that sand color, apply a raw umber wash on it and, after varnishing, I'll weather it by drybrushing a bit and using some pastel chalks. Do you think this procedure is correct? Please leave some sugestions regarding the painting and weathering process of these kind of kits

Thanks in advance,

Francisco

Howdy Francisco. The sand color is pretty much the same for US vehicles. If you are going to use Tamiya paints then XF-59 would be a good start. Your procedure sounds good. For the scale you are using you may want to lighten it a bit. That will also compensate for the oil wash darkening the surface. I usually seal the finish before the wash. Please share a photo of your "Tuna Boat" when you are done.

Howdy Francisco. It sure is a nice looking piece of "Tuna Boat". Which paint did you end up using? Does the kit come with three different versions?. Looks great on this end. "Tanks" for sharing. Out here.

The kit comes with 2 decal options but only one version of the vehicle. However I think the other version is available also because I saw the box with that 3 tone camouflaged vehicle.
I ended up using humbrol colours: Tan+ a drop of Trainer Yellow + Brown. At first it looked to bright but the wash toned it down. I guess it ended up nicelly and I recomend these kits to everyone!

Cya!

Wow, Francisco, that is a beautiful paint job. Although I am not into this scale, this model sure transcends that topic. Thanks for sharing.
