Has anyone had a chance to compare the new Dragon 1/72 Humvee's to the Revell ones? I have the Revell (and the M/W, but I prefer the Revell over them), and I was wondering. Cookie Sewell gave them some nice words over at Missing Lynx, but I haven't seen anyone put them down next to each other and comment...

The Revell one is nice, but from what I've seen, the Dragon one looks better, gives PE grill for brush guard and the .50 cal is not molded upside down.

I haven't seen the Dragon HMMVWs yet but it seems that they will be vastly superior to Revell's version and, apart from the undersized wheels, upside down MG mount, incomplete canopy, etc, Revell's HMMVWs were pretty damn good!

There's a preview by Simon Barnes that you may wish to read:

What will I do with all the aftermarket wheels I bought in anticipation of building several Revell HMMVWs?

I just won the Dragon kit on eBay today. Should be here in a week or so. I will try to do a "quick look" comparing the MW HMMWV, Revell HMMWV and Dragon HMMWV in the near future.

I dont want to jump the gun and beat Sabot to the punch! I just picked up the DML HMMWV and let me tell you guys, you wont be disappointed.

Rob, please go ahead and do a in depth review. Your always come out better. I cant write worth a darn.

Now, you dont get as many parts as the Revell kit, but the options you get in the DML, you'll be amaze. The way the sprues are laid out, it seems more variants are coming. You get two different types of brush guards, side rails for the cargo variant. Smoke poppers are included. 3 different types of front bumpers. There is even TOW tripod included suggesting that a TOW variant will be coming.

I do see one bad thing. It has an older style radio and not a SINCGAR mounted. Oh well, can't have everything.

In 1/72 scale it would be nothing more than a small squared end piece of plastic to represent the new model. Easy enough to fake the funk on this one Pete, but I hear ya' . I have officially ran out of room in my shop for any more kits 1/72 or other wise.. I am starting to think maybe I should build some to make some more shelf room :-) :-) What am I thinking? Call me crazy. :-) "Q"

I agree with Matt on this, in 1/72 scale, just a radio shaped object is good enough.

As to jumping the gun, do not feel that because I stated I was going to do a side-by-side, that you can't do one as well. Everyone will have a different opinion on the features of each kit. Case in point, Pete is unhappy with the radio yet Matt and I could really care less.

I never said I was going to do an "in depth review". I said I would do a "quick look" comparison.

Randy

I picked up the Dragon HMMWV kit yesterday and it has blown the Revell kit completely out of the water!

The Dragon kit wins hands down in terms of options provided, sub-components designed for ease of construction, etched scrub guards, accurate wheels and tyres, alternative armanent, clear plastic components, and ectensive markings.

The un-used parts provided indicate that Dragon will be releasing more variants and I am already looking forward to them.

The only problem I have is what to do with the four sets of Calibre 72 wheels I bought in anticipation of building several Revell HMMWV s?
