Hi all,

I'm a bit confused. I wanted to built the Alan Flammpanzer II kit for the Burn Baby Burn campaign, and the review I read at track-link was very very positive (4,5 stars out of 5). However I also read a review at Panzer-modell.de which gave the kit 2 stars out of 5.

So, 1 very good, and 1 poor.

I don't know which one to believe, so does anyone knows something more about this kit? It looks like an interesting built but I don't want to waste my money on a bad kit!

good pm,
how does one judge a kit-the opinions expressed are like the fingers of your hand, all different and so it will remain.
you have listed two opinions, suggest getting a third one and compare the three. and that should give a base line to make your own decision.
there are too many web sites pertaining to kit reviews that one shouldn't be restricted to two.
cheers

Or, just go ahead and build the thing because YOU like the model. I like wierd armor(WW1, engineering vehicles, SP guns, etc.) so sometimes what I buy would give anyone a headache. But, I LIKE IT, so I buy it. Off my soapbox now.
Enjoy it all

Well if it helps I built the kit and I didn't encounter any major fit issues. I did replace the kit tracks with MKs though. I can not vouch for it's accuracy but it was fun to build.

There are some pictures of it here:

I've got the ICM Flammpanzer II F "Flamingo", but I do not know if it is the same kit.

I do have several Alan kits like the Marder II D, Panzer II C, Panzer I F (a rather cool looking light tank) and the DML boxed Valentine IV Mk III. The Alan kits are challenging but well detailed and definitely builable.

Rob,

I don't know if they are the same kit but I started out building the ICM one and the fit was so bad I junked it and went back to the LHS and bought the Alan one which luckily for me at the time was on sale (I already had the tracks and I wanted to build that beast). The Alan kit went together a lot smoother and the detail was better in my opinion. I have bought 3 ICM kits. 2 of them I had to junk and one built up ok. The problem on the 2 I didn't build was a combination of extremely poor fit and warped parts along with a plastic that for reasons I can not explain would not glue up using any glue I had in my arsenal. I am sure the other modelers here could have built both those kits they just bested me at the time and frustration set in.

After I did that Flammpanzer I also built one of the late Panzer IIJ kits from Alan and it was a fun build too. So I am 2 for 2 on Alan and 1 for 3 on ICM.
Hope that helps.

Rob

My only real comment about Alan kits is that a PE set or other detail set is normally required to replace some vaguely detailed parts. The Tamiya Panzer IV On Vehicle Equipment set or the Italeri Panzer detail set is normally required to replace soft detailed tools and equipment.

Yeah I agree there and I did I think replaced the jack with one from the Tamiya Panzer 4 set which is cheap enough that it isn't too painful. I also replaced grab handles with wire as I recall. I didn't have any PE for it.
