My brother was in the 3/2nd ACR in the early to mid 80's. Here is a picture of the M60A3 he drove and an unknown track with a camouflage pattern they experimented with. He called it dualtex. Cream and black four inch squares on the brown and black and cream squares olive drab. He also told me how big a pain it was to paint it because everything was masked and hard edged and there were "rules" about where to paint the squares; no 2 cream squares any closer than this amount, no two black squares within this distance of a cream square or a drab edge, etc.
Anyone ever seen this or have any more documentation?
Thanks,
I would really like to do an M60 up in the "dualtex" for my brother but if I ask him again it won't be a suprise...

I remember an article in Military Modeling from the mid 1980's on this camo pattern. It was just as you said experimental.

Here's a couple pics and a website that talks all about it. Pretty interresting to find out the "Digital" camo as we now call it is 30 years old.

Thanks Gino,
I have been Googling forever and only came up with Gore Tex...
As rare as this stuff was, that might actually be my brother's ride in one of those pictures...
Thanks again.
Going to do one up just to mess with some contest judges.

Keenan, try looking for an old "ARMOR" magazine that is put out by the US Army. I believe that the dual tex camo was covered in an issue around 1979 or 1980. I do not know if they have an on-line index or not. They also covered cloth and carpet type camo patches that were being evaluated at Ft Knox around the same time frame. I will look through my junk for the issue. It may have already been gifted to some ARMY modeler. Give those judges heck! Out here.
