Nothing takes the wind out of my modeling sails like having to undo previous work.
Ok, so it might be partly my fault, but the instructions and specifically the illustration for steps 17 and 18 are wrong.
In step 17 AND 18 the instuctions for parts B26 and B27 clearly show the FLAT faces of the pivot points for the gun cradle facing forward, and the half round side facing toward the rear of the gun..
They need to be ROUNDED side forward, with the flat part facing backwards to match up with parts 51 and 52 in step 18.
And No, before you ask, I did not get 51 and 52 backwards, swapped sides, or upside down. Part 51 on the right hand side of the cradle does not have the pin go all the way through, there is only one way and only one side to use this part. Part 52 has a hole all the way through to mount the sight assembly onto.
Here is where I might have made my mistake. I often cut out both handed or opposite side parts at the same time and use the illustrations to allign them. I might not have held the subassembly and done 26=left side and glued then 27 =right side and glued.
A little testors liquid and a sharp knife and I should be ok, but it just bums me out to only get a small amount of bench time per week and spend it undoing previous work.
So heads up out there.
Mike

Now there's a topic heading we could have here at the Big A.
Error Zone.
Anyone who finds and writes up a defect can post it.Then the manufacturers will have a place to go to see how well they are doing.

That's a very good idea Carl.

Aapparently this had come up before.
Now I have to start archiving threads about kits I WANT to buy, not just the ones I am actually currently building...
To ths same thread over in Missing Links, david nickels has replied (with title "Yes it is wrong"):
There are several errors in the DML PaK 40, Pakwagen, Nashorn and other kit
instructions.
Luckily I found out about the Pakwagon gun cradle before I built the kit. The
error was discussed here several times in the past.
You will also have problems with the gun cradle mounting to the hull. If I were
to do that part again, I would cut the bolts from the hull stiffners so that the
cradle mount sits flush against them. Then, glue the stiffners to the big
cradle cross brace. After that, glue the complete assembly into the hull as far
forward as possible. You have a good bit of slop in this area. The whole gun
still mounts too far back but this can help a lot.
Remember also to leave out the radio operators seat. Removing the molded "base"
beneath the seat is a pain so I covered it on my kit with some jerry cans.
Leave out the co-driver's vision port also, and plate it over on the outside.
The vehicle radio is probably moved also. I think on at least some vehicles it
is mounted on the left side wall next to the driver. Some vehicles have the
antenna mount right there on the hull side near the side vision slit.

I noticed an error on their Panther D kit front fenders ..the piece with the wing nuts is supposed to go under the fender with the post and wing nuts sticking up straight. Not on top of the fenders link in their picture.
