Hi all, more progress on my barge for my career dio, the never ending build.
Don't know if I like the spindles on the side rails tho looks to pirate shippy, may just find a Johnny Depp figure and dress him in German grey.
The Bilstein 3 tn crane needs to be built along with plastic card for the sides of the barge and about 1,000 rivits, and other assorted crap like some sort of tie down arrangement for the scooters on the pilot house.
The engine room/a.a. platform areas cabin door and vented windows are from Tamiyas PZIV.
Other pics. in my gallery, thanks for looking. - Cheyenne

Cheyenne, it is getting more and more impressive as you continue. I think its ingenious how you used the tank parts for the doors and things. I also have to admit that although I know you truly have a grasp for working with wood I still am amazed with each new piece you build. Congrats on the excellent build so far. I look forward to seeing the next stage. Oh and as far as those antique ship parts I dont think its bad at all. ARRGH Kevin

Cheyenne,
Looking good, the barge is an exceptional piece full of great detail. The side rails look fine. I look forward to the rest of the build. So far, everything has been impressive.
Hope the knee is doing OK

Cheyene, that is indeed an amazing piece of craftman ship. And I too like you're innovative use of spare tank parts..
But, some observations.
I think you're right, the 'railings' don't feel quite right. These barges were ( and indeed still are) working tubs, without any niceties or pretty finishes. Railings would be straight and functional tube, as would be bollards and tiedowns.
I think that this is supposed to be a cago tub which is pulled or pushed by a tug? Because of the square shape. In that case you need a set of very sturdy bollards at either end of the boat, where they would attach the tug and extra tubs to.
I like the bikes on the shipping platform, maybe tie them down, or maybe try a cargo net over them?
What load will you be putting in the hold?
Looking excellent so far, looking forward to how it develops.
Cheers
Henk

Thanks everyone, It's about 6 A.M. South Jersey shore time and I'm off to surgery. If I'm not to out of it when I get home I'll answer questions. Thanks Henk about the spindles, looking at it on my work area it looks like it belongs on the Spanish Main. I do have some other less ornate ones I can replace them with. - Cheyenne

That is some beautiful work you've got there! I don't really have any questions right now, but then again, I'm still picking my jaw up off the floor after taking a good look at your craftmanship. Thanks for giving us a look, can't wait to see the finished dio.

Hi Cheyene
First of all: I hope your surgery to be fast and clean with a speedy recovery!
Second: I missed this post and only caught it by chance. You have done a great work with the exception of the railling situation, as Henk so well noticed!
I know that this is only 2% of the all work so far, but really stands out (no harm intended).
Really looking forward for your updates on this project
Best wishes (again!)
Skipper
