G*day friends,
Some while ago I posted a destroyed KV1 with a base but I wasn't really satisfied with the result so I made a new one. I tried to use al the tips given in the previous thread so I hope it will look more oke now.
The dio is at the beginning of his setting and many things need to be done. I consider the groundwork done for 75% because I need to add some other 'colourful' vegetation because it is at the moment a bit.....green.
My first intention was to add another tank passing by but I think the dio is to small for that. But now I think I will stick to some figgies only and maybe a kettenkraft or something like that. So any ideas are very welcome.
The pics are a bit to bright, the actual colours are much more dark. Anyway..here are some pics and I hope you like it
Real burned tree,...hehe
Thanks for viewing
Jurjen

Excellent dio Jurjen.
The burned out tank looks amazing. Great idea with the burned tree right next to the tank.
The leafs on the big tree look a bit heavy/dense though, but still a good looking tree.

Very nice dio. Great job. I really like the burned out tank. It looks excellent. Btw..can you tell us what you used to make your tree..specifically the base of the tree that has the heavy vegatation.?

This is a great dio so far, Jurjen!
What I think would make this dio complete, would be your idea of the figures with a kettenkrad, and A couple of dead russian tank crew men next to the tank.

Hey Jurjen!
I love what you did with that burned tree. I've been thinking about that for myself some time as well, because I wanted to do a diorama with a flamethrower......so can I ask you how you made that burned look on the tree and the ground near the tank??
The other tree looks a bit ehmm....how do you say in English...ehmmm....well Dutch then: in elkaar gedrukt ofzo....lol hoop dat ik mezelf een klein beetje duidelijk maak hehe
Other than that, great work! I'll visit you soon again and you can give me a little how-to workshop then :-)

Thanks for the replies
I really need to plan more carefully when I start a new dio hehe. The biggest dilemma is IMHO the winter - spring/summer contrast and I really need to change that. I can decide to make a winter setting or a spring/summer setting but to both I have to do some consessions.
If I want to make a winter setting shall I leave the KV as it is now? I think I can keep the machinegun on the vehicle because the tank is then recently knocked out. (in my imagination though)
Winter:
-Leave MG on tank?
-Add some snow to the dio?
-Does the large tree have to much leaves for in the winter? But I think I will not remove the tree.
Spring/Summer:
-Remove MG?
-Shall I make the KV more rusty/weatherd?
-add more 'life' to the burned-out area?
-add more colourful vegation to the dio
I'm still in dubio what to do because it will have also a large effect to the figures i.e. Not that is a real problem though. Maybe I will add a Kübel or something like that. Another tank is to much I think.
A big THANK you for the feedback and the tips, really appreciated

Winter
Yes
Yes
Yes
Spring/Summer:
That's what I'd do
Yep
They say burned ground is very good for new vegatation....that's why they burned down forests in the past to get good farm ground. So I guess you should then.
Maybe some flowers....but it depends on the feeling you want to give the diorama. Flowers cheer up, so if you want a "happy" dio I'd add flowers.
So, spring, summer or winter?
I'd go for winter. You should strip the tree then, no leaves on a tree during winter.
Don't go for spring. Lot's of mud during the Russian spring. You'd have to change a lot on your dio to make it a muddy setting and your nice groundwork would have been for nothing. You don't have this problem with snow.

Thanks for your replie Martin.
I'm also considering to make a winter scene of it. The main problem would be the tree. I do know for sure that I will not remove the tree but still it have to much leaves on it so I need to remove them. But how?
Maybe an idea to burn the tree a bit more so that many of the leaves will be burned? And afterwards to spray it in brown/green tones? It will be quite a challenge but when I get the opportunity to burn my dio :-)
(aah stupid tree:|)
What about in the early spring with some late snowfall?

Early spring with late snowfall is a good idea. Personally I'd replace the whole tree and make a new simple tree without leaves....but if you really don't want to do that....:-)

I would go along with that approach, then reuse the superb tree for another dio later.
Brilliant groundwork on this one, do not put too much snow on it, a very light dusting only.
Also consider turning the tank around, currently the amazing detail of the damaged section is facing into the diorama (assuming the tree is the background). As this is the key to the whole story of the tank being knocked out it should be visible immediately to the viewer.

Hi Rob,
First a big welcome to Armorama! You're absolutely right about the position of the tank. But I think it would be impossible to change the postion (wel it is possible:-)) because the burned erea would not be logical. ( I think)
So I need to change the front size of the dio. In the lenght would not be a good idea so maybe the back would? But then I have one large tree (now I really going to hate that tree :-)) in the front of it. But if I can remove many of the leaves the problem should be solved and maybe the view will be much more interesting because you have to look through the tree.
Well I hope you understand my explanation because it is very dutch-english. Sorry for that.
Thanks for the tip!
Cheers,
Jurjen

Tank looks great and so does the paint job .
The ground looks good but I too dislike the thick "mossy: foliage on the tree.
I just don't like that stuff for trees!
Cheers, Michael

I think the contrast between the whitewash and new green growth is a good idea. How about the scene with something like this on the road..............
or this...........
or this..........
Just some ideas. Sorry to butt in.

Hi jurjen,
Your dio looks owesome.
I think you should make snow and a lot of figs.
I know you hate figs...
But for such a dio is it i think a must.
Maby a german officer or something in a kubel.
With infantery that is forward to the front.
Germans who are looking in the burnt tank is also a idea.
Still a great dio!
Greats Hilbert

How about some Russian POW's (if you can find usefull figs for that) ?
Or maybe a 250 halftrack...not too large, could fit in the dio I think. Or maybe a Horch...with 20mm flak gun?
Just some ideas

Hi Guys
@Michael Wawrow: I see what you mean about the foliage. I think I will have a trim session
@Patrick Parton: Those are nice looking figures. Are they from CMK? It could be nice to use only civilian figures. Thanks for the pics!
@Martinnn: So I have to build some...Ger..ma...n...armor.... :-)
@Hilbert: Lol, not that much figgies
