I'm nearing completion of my latest build and after reading posts here the last couple of months I want to add a finish to it which I have never attempted before.
What's the consensus on the best line to use?
I've read a couple of posts about using Future floor wax, but wouldn't that create a glossy finish? I would think that you would want a flat finish for military models, right?
I found a flat finish in aerosol by Krylon, but wanted to see what the members thought before i do something disasterous to my build.

I would use Dullcoat. Somebody will say something else. Welcome aboard Peacemaker haven't seen you around these parts in awhile

Testor's Dullcote shot through an airbrush does it for me. Do not attempt to brush this on. It WILL attack most other paints. PollyS flat also works really well if you prefer an acrylic. You might be able to get by brushing this if you don't have an airbrush.

A coat of Future Floor Wax is usually just to provide a good surface for the application of the decals. A gloss coat is preferable to minimize an effect known as "silvering". This is where the clear carrier film surrounding the decal is too visible. It can also be uesful when adding wash coats to the model. After these have been done, a matt coat is then added.

You should be able to find Testors Dullcote where the Testors paints are in your local model store. Note that the dullcote is a clear lacquer and you will need to buy some Testors lacquer thinner for it also.

Could also invest a little more and get regular Lacquer thinner at the paint store. Cheaper in the long run a gallon $7.00 a little jar 2 ozs $2.59 that's 128 ounces for $8.00 bucks verses $3.00 for 2ozs. (:-)

I will definitely have to search for that, Jeff. I am always running low on that Testors stuff.

Went to a wedding over the weekend...just got back. Did hit the local hobby shop down there.
