Hi Guy's
can someone help me with the colour scheme for a Daimler MkII Scout Car. I paint in Humbrol enamals and was going to go with Humbrol 93 Dark Yellow (African Front). But feel that this is more likely associated with German Forces!

Cheers
Lee

Hi Lee here is a link that should answer all your questions about British colors during the war ...either that or confuse the life out of you ... :-)

Thanks Rick,
you are right though, confused the hell out of me. Seen as how I haven't got much of a response on this "need help", I think I will just go with the Humbrol Dark Yellow. Thanks for your help though.

Regards
Lee

Well, let's cut through the confusion if we can. What confused you about the MAFVA colour information? Is it that you are unsure when during the war that you want to depict or you don't know what the colour paint mix ratios mean? I'd be happy to help if I can.

I wouldn't as you are correct that Humbrol "Dark Yellow" is closer to the German colour than the Brit one. Did you want to paint your Dingo in desert colours or would you prefer a NW Europe or Italy scheme?

Paul,
thanks, I would like to paint it in African campaign scheme.
As far as the colour scheme site is concerned. I guess I was a bit over the top with "being confused" (a little). I was hoping for a site that could actually identify suitable Humbrol paints to use. Perhaps I didn't dig deep enough?

Lee, I can't remember the paint number, but Humbrol make (or made0 a colour called 'concrete'. this would be a good base for WW2 Light Stone. By the time it's been weathered it'd be pretty close in my opinion.

Lee,

For an Africa campaign Dingo, you'll have to be a bit more specific in terms of time frame as the "proper" patterns changed over time. Recognise that the scheme a vehicle is painted in will probably reflect the time it was _recieved_ in the theatre and not necessarily the most current set of orders. This is generally due the the fact that most vehicles weren't repainted unless they underwent a major refit or unless they went to a very different climactic area in the theatre.

For instance there were Shermans in Sicily and southern Italy still sporting the black (or green) over stone scheme of the desert, but they repainted tot he Black over light Mud scheme as they moved up the boot and into more green based countryside.

This page gives you the details of times and official colours:
http://www.mafva.org/britishcamo1.asp

If you go to either of these pages, you'll find Humbrol mixes for the standard colours referred to on the first page.
http://www.mafva.org/britishcamo2.asp
http://www.mafva.org/britishcamo3.asp

Hope this helps.

Paul
