Don't beat yourself up to much about the pictures.
The first guy - I'm not a fan of the eyes, they have a bit to much brown around them. The camo is nice and the details are good. Try to touch up the chin strap on his right cheek
The medic is nicely done overall. I personally would have done white over the edge of the vest and arm band and done a wash in the crease to add shadows. Your style is fine, just a different style.
Yellow colar guy - great camo, great details. His eyes are a bit buggy, maybe a touch of dilute white on his eye balls will make them stand out a bit. Also a touch of dark pink on the tounge.
The MG guy - NICE, nice nice
The rest of the guys are very nice, love the thompson guy.
nice update - thanks

Dunno if it's the sculpting or what but the German faces look funny. The US guys seem ok. That leads me to believe that there is something funky with the German heads. Uniforms look A+ on all the figures.

I have always liked your figures, and have no complaints as they are 100X better than mine :-) What kind of paints do you use, great job on the pea-dot camo by the way, from what I can see between your updates, this dio is going to play out very well
great stuff

Harrison,
Nice job overall on the figs.
Here are a few things i noticed.
1. The Medic should have 2 red cross markings on his helmet. In all the medic pictures ive seen/have, they all seem to have the crosses on the helmet.
2. The US Uniforms seem too green. most of them werent a solid green but an OD and Khaki combination
Check out this website for a complete list of the uniform and gear colors. Its under painting instructions.

Thanks for the comments MMclean. The medic helmets do not have to have red crosses on them at all. Also, the uniforms of the US arent green. They are khaki brown.

Harrison,
First off all medics in the ETO had a red cross on there helmet because they all didnt were the vest that you have on yours.
Second, the US Uniforms in the ETO ranged from a large number of colors. From a light OD to a Khaki to tan. It all depended on when, where, and why type of fabric used.
Now the figures that you have there are wearing the M1943 Jumpsuit. That could range in any color between OD and Tan. If you check out the website i gave you in my last post, Tim Streeter, the webmaster for US Army Models, gives a very complete and accurate list of colors he recommends for painting US Uniforms in the ETO.
Also, Not all US Uniforms were khaki. I even have some color pallets from various historical publications that show otherwise.
The Para's that you painted seem to have a field green look to them, which isnt totally right. Try a little bit more towards the khaki or faded OD.
Just a few suggestions.

The picture lighting wasnt the best, the figures shirts look a little greener than they are in real, they are actually tan.
but from what you mention, your saying that green, khaki, and od uniforms are ok....so what is the problem with mine?
secondly, regarding the helmet cross, you say not all soldiers who had the helmet cross had the medic poncho, so then cant it work the other way, if they dont have the helmet, wear the poncho?
maybe he simply lost his medic helmet
Well anyways, thanks for you concern.
BTW: heres the same tunic as the figs, and the same color i painted them:

:-) That would be my fault, we were to engroased in a lengthy bout of BattleField Vietnam :-) :-) :-)
Harrison, by the sounds of it, the medic you have is fine to use as is.
I agree, his original helmet could simply have gotten lost.

I thought a long time ago we had a discussion about medic helmets. It was decided that early in the war there were white circles and red crosses. However the white circles were soon eliminated when medics embedded with troops would give away their postions when the bright white circle was spotted moving in the field. Armbands were all that was issued later in the war.
However many of the early medics simply never turned in their older helmets for newer ones so there may be some floating about throughout the ETO. New medics got regular helmets.
White circle helmets were still used in rear areas where combat was less likely but being identified as a non-combatant was necessary.
Anyway I thought that's what I remembered

Ciao Harrison,
I know that you are expecting and soliciting harsh criticism, but I think that you figures are too well done for any such criticism. I really like your painting style. It gives the figures a "gritty" realism that separates your figures from many others. I love them!! I really like the camo uniforms. Excellent!!
Ciao for now
Rob
P.S. Saw your picture on the show report that Jim Starkweather did. Congrats, you're famous now.

Ciao Harrison,
I can tell you that the picture of the guy holding the plasma is NOT a medic. He was just a soldier "on loan" from his company to assist in medical/stretcher bearer duties. I am very familiar with that photograph (Taken in Sicily, of course) and I have seen in three instances where the soldier was referred to as assisting medical personnel. That would explain why he doesn't have the crosses on his helmet.

For a person as young as yourself (and I say that with envy), your camo painting is top noch.
My only critisim isn't with you but with the German fellow in camo that decided to wear a bright yellow undergarment and leave his collar open! Just a little thoughtless and self-defeating But than again, maybe that is why he appears to have just been shot!
The finished dio should be a good one.
Cheers,
Charles
P.S. nice to have met you at the SCHAMS show

CReading, thanks for the comment bro. I was just thinking that the scarf was a good luck charm that his mother gave him or somthing, ya know? BTW, whoever asked about the crouching US figure with the tommy gun, its verlinden but built it different then the box, I made him holding on to a clip of ammo, when he was really holding on to the other part of the tommy gun. Thanks for the comments guys!

Tsnuami,
these are better pictures indeed. Thanks !
Overall I think the figures are quite good. I would pay a little more attention to the faces of some german soldiers.
Perhaps it's the light in the pictures, but some look a bit to yellowish to me, like they are sick. But like I said, that could be caused by the light.
The faces in picture 1 and 3 don't look to good to me. I would refurbish or even repaint them.
The uniforms look quite good.
Overall I would say : some adjustments to the faces and you have a very nice set of figures !
